Wolves in Wisconsin

Source: Timber Wolf Alliance News / October 2002

The new wolf population figure for Wisconsin is 320 wolves in approximately 70-80 packs, including those on Indian Reservations.

Eighteen confirmed livestock depredations due to wolves and 17 dog depredations occurred.

Over a 10 to 12 year period, wildlife service trappers, and state and federal biologists trapped 19 wolves from depredation sites. Fourteen of those animals were relocated to another area within the state; three of those wolves are currently alive.

In 2001, $22,800 was paid by the state as reimbursements for livestock and pet losses.
